Giving to Adelphi

IRA Gifts

Give to Adelphi from your IRA and receive tax benefits.

The IRA Charitable Rollover permits a taxpayer age 70½ years or older to donate up to $100,000 directly from an IRA to Adelphi University. The amount transferred will count toward the owner’s required minimum distribution (RMD) and will not be included in his or her taxable income. Because the funds you give away are never taxed as income, your gift does not qualify as a charitable income tax deduction.

Our sample IRA Charitable Rollover letter can help you arrange this type of gift with your IRA administrator.

Take the following steps to take advantage of this opportunity:

  • Provide your IRA custodian with the sample letter above or provide your adviser with our taxpayer ID number and mailing address:

Adelphi University
Office of University Advancement
1 South Avenue
P.O. Box 701
Garden City, NY 11530-0701

  • The IRA custodian must make the check payable to Adelphi University.
  • Notify us to expect your gift and tell us where to direct the funds so we can be certain to provide you with the proper receipting to satisfy the IRS requirements.

If you are contemplating a charitable gift under the new laws, please feel free to contact Adelphi by email at or call 516.877.3098 for additional information.
