“My years at Adelphi were exciting and gratifying. I gained new knowledge, skills, values and perspectives on the world that served me well in my career and in life generally. Scott and I are delighted to support this wonderful, vibrant institution to help ensure that current and future students will also enjoy the same high quality experience that I did at Adelphi.”
— Angela (Maestri) Jaggar B.S. ’62, M.A. ’65

Throughout her career in education—she dedicated more than 30 years to teaching and conducting research in children’s language and literacy development at New York University—Dr. Angela (Maestri) Jaggar B.S. ’62, M.A. ’65 never forgot her roots. A consistent donor to Adelphi’s Annual Fund, she says: “Alumni have a responsibility to support current and future Adelphi students.”

A member of the Adelphi University Board of Trustees since 2008, she has done much more than “support” Adelphi’s young men and women. Through her thoughtful generosity, she is making opportunities available to Adelphi students—opportunities that they might not have access to otherwise.

With a significant investment in Adelphi, Dr. Jaggar and her husband, Scott, created an endowed fund to establish the Angela and Scott Jaggar Scholarship, to help students in financial need. They also support the Community Fellows Program, which provides University-paid stipends to students participating in internships at local not-for-profit organizations. It is the only program of its kind in the region.

In addition to providing continued generous support for these initiatives for the benefit of today’s students, Dr. Jaggar is also making sure Adelphi will have resources to serve new generations of students. Members of the Ruth S. Harley Planned Giving Society, the Jaggars have included the University in their estate plans, naming Adelphi a beneficiary of an annuity, an IRA, and a charitable remainder unitrust.

While these are three different kinds of planned giving vehicles, all of them allow donors to make a powerful impact at Adelphi. The future support the University will receive from the Jaggars will bolster the Community Fellows Program, The Angela and Scott Jaggar Scholarship, and The Louise and Joseph Maestri Scholarship Fund. Created in memory of Dr. Jaggar’s parents, the Maestri scholarship supports graduate level students enrolled in Adelphi’s education program.
